Pelvic obliquity and Isogai®

"Isogai®-Dynamic-Therapy" is a body therapy originating from Japan, developed in the middle of the last century by Dr. Kimiyoshi Isogai.

The basic assumption of "Isogai®-Dynamic-Therapy" was the idea of balanced body statics. The prerequisite for balanced body statics is a balanced foundation. The foundation of our spine is the pelvis, on which the spine rests.

If the pelvis is balanced and relaxed, the spine stands on this foundation in its natural curvature. The vertebrae are optimally positioned one above the other and the intervertebral discs are not subjected to one-sided stress. The probability of intervertebral disc problems and back pain is reduced to a minimum. Due to balanced statics of the spine, the relaxed upper body can also find an optimal position and the risk of one-sided overloading with the result of tension and injuries is reduced.

Another important aspect is the neural supply of our body. The spinal nerves run through the spinal column. These nerves emerge in pairs at the sides of the vertebral bodies. When the body statics are balanced, the neural supply to the entire body is also balanced. The functions of the organs are thus optimized. The same applies to blood circulation, metabolism, etc. In short, all body functions are in an optimal balanced state and are fully functional. The probability of organ disorders is reduced and the immune system is optimized.

The prerequisite for a balanced foundation are the supporting columns. In the case of the pelvis, these are our legs. Here, too, the optimal position of the legs is crucial. The optimal position is given when the legs are of equal length and the angles of the hip joints are balanced. This results in an optimal weight-bearing line of the legs, which have to bear the entire body weight. If the legs are in this condition, this has a positive effect upwards through the pelvis, the spine to the crown of the head. The same is true in the other direction, from the hip joint, through the knee joints to the ankles. The neural supply is balanced and the joints, muscles, tendons are loaded in a balanced way. The probability of injuries or disorders are reduced to a minimum.

The 'Isogai® Dynamic Therapy'

The basis of the therapy is the knowledge that a pelvic obliquity throws the human organism out of balance. If this condition is permanent, it reacts with illness and is more prone to injury. Based on years of research, Dr. Isogai found that pelvic obliquity is most often caused by a misalignment of the hip joints (hip subluxation) and not by differences in the lengths of the bones.

If one leg "hangs" looser than the other at the hip, this leads to a visible difference in the length of the legs. The core of 'Isogai® Dynamic Therapy' is therefore a correction of the hip joints to eliminate these differences in leg length and all associated symptoms.

Isogai® Dynamic Therapy is based on the knowledge that subluxations of the hip joint are a common cause of disease.

Leg length difference from the point of view of orthodox medicine

Most people have already been diagnosed with a shorter or longer leg. However, this difference in length does not play a significant role in orthodox medicine; heel raises for the supposedly shorter leg are sometimes prescribed as a correction. Back pain, knee and shoulder problems, tension or organic complaints are not causally related to a pelvic obliquity.

Leg length difference from the perspective of Isogai® therapy

The Isogai® method takes a completely opposite view of this problem.

Due to different leg lengths, the pelvis is crooked, which serves as a "foundation" for the spine. The spine now tries to compensate for its crooked foundation by tilting to the side. The entire body statics get mixed up. The load-bearing lines of the body shift and as a result individual joints (knee, hip, shoulder, etc.) and the spine are overloaded. That is why many people, including young people, have problems with joints and intervertebral discs.

Another aspect is the impairment of neurality, i.e. the nervous network. The spinal nerves run through the spinal column. These nerves emerge in pairs at the sides of the vertebral bodies. Now, when the spine makes a rotation or lateral tilt to compensate for hip misalignment, nerves can be disturbed in their function and under- or over-stimulate certain areas of the body. This in turn can impair organ functions.

Correct pelvic obliquity - eliminate the cause

Through movement exercises, the Isogai® therapist determines which leg is the supposedly longer one. Often the posture or asymmetries in the face or shoulders of the patient already give valuable clues about the hip position. In order to re-stabilize the body's central line, manual techniques are used to align the longer leg with the shorter one and not vice versa.

Correction of the hip joints is one part of the treatment. Another essential point is symmetrical muscle building. In order to keep the corrected hip joints in the correct position in the long term, it is important to perform the Isogai exercises regularly. Unequal leg lengths automatically result in unequal loads. This in turn leads to unequal muscle development. To compensate for this muscle build-up, the patient is shown exercises that are individually tailored to his or her particular degree of hip misalignment in order to build up symmetrical muscles.

Overview Isogai®, therapeutically applied

  1. Diagnosis: position of the hip joints and the pelvis, which leg is the supposedly longer. Are there any physical or organic complaints.
  2. Correction of the hip joints
  3. Corrective exercises musculature
  4. On the stone lie according to strict schedule
  5. Corrective exercises
  6. Compilation of exercises for home.

The active cooperation of the patient is thus a decisive prerequisite for the success of the treatment.

For this reason, the Isogai® self-treatment method was developed, as practiced and taught by certified Isogai® practitioners. This is both an important supplement to the therapeutic application of the Isogai® method and, when applied preventively, a valuable building block for a healthy and balanced body.

Overview of the Isogai® Method for Practitioners:

  1. Diagnosis: This should be diagnosed by a certified Isogai® therapist. .
  2. Exercises for the correction of hip joints
  3. Corrective exercises for the muscles
  4. On the stone lie according to strict schedule
  5. Corrective exercises
  6. Compilation of exercises for home.
